Administering applications for clinical attachments/observerships and medical student electives.Administering study leave for doctors in training.Career guidance for doctors in training.Providing facilities for the education of clinicians.Working to share good practice with links to other medical education organisations.Running a range of courses in a wide variety of disciplines and developing new courses, teaching materials and methods.Liaising with regional and national medical education bodies to ensure our education services meet required standards.Overseeing the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate education and training programmes and monitoring and responding to quality issues in any of these areas.The training, development and workforce department oversees this function for all staff, including doctors. University Hospital Southampton is the focus for the administration, delivery and management of both clinical and research education for all doctors, whether in training or in career grades. If you don't have log in details for the VLE you can still view our statutory and mandatory courses. You'll be able to see your specific statutory and mandatory training requirements under 'my statutory and mandatory training' when you log in to the VLE.

Each year thereafter you should complete the sessions again (unless otherwise specified) to ensure and record that you are up to date.

During your first year you must also complete the statutory and mandatory training sessions that were not covered in your induction.

You must attend a Trust induction in your first month of starting work at UHSFT.

Mandatory training is an organisational requirement to limit risk and maintain safe working practice. Statutory training is needed to meet legislative duties. The Trust has a responsibility to provide statutory and mandatory training and to ensure that staff attend. Statutory and mandatory training for nurses and midwives As well as the nurses and midwives employed here, we have nursing and midwifery students on practical placements in clinical areas around our hospitals. Our nurses and midwives take part in continuing education and training, ensuring their competence and ongoing development, and supporting them to provide excellent care to our patients.
